Infection Prevention and Control: Who Knew Hand Hygiene Was So Important!

Plan to attend this interactive and fun session to learn more about the value of hand hygiene in protecting yourself. Cleaning your hands can prevent the spread of germs, including those that are resistant to antibiotics, and protects healthcare personnel and residents. Clean hands are the single most important factor in preventing the spread of pathogens and antibiotic resistance in healthcare settings.  Hand hygiene reduces the incidence of healthcare associated infections.

Germs are everywhere! They can get onto hands and items we touch during daily activities and make us sick. Cleaning hands at key times with soap and water or hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol is one of the most important steps you can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to those around you. Listen to why CDC has promoted alcohol-based hand sanitizer as a preferred option instead of using handwashing with plain soap and water in most situations due to convenience requiring less time, faster acting and less staff complaints of dry, irritated hands.

This session will explain the differences between washing hands with soap and water and using hand sanitizer.

Key Learning Takeaways:

  • Identify the CDC healthcare infection control guidelines on hand hygiene
  • Knowledge about when to use soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Demonstration of the procedures and time needed for correct implementation of hand hygiene
  • Discuss creative strategies in training and monitoring staff practices with hand hygiene

Join us to learn key tools to ensure we are safer, healthier people using core elements of infection prevention and control.
